Who We Are
What to Know About Yamunotri Dham
Yamunotri
Yamunotri Dham is one of the sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites of Uttarakhand, along with Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath—the four most revered Hindu temples in the Himalayas. This serene mountain hamlet, centered around the ancient Yamunotri Temple, attracts thousands of devotees and spiritual seekers every year.
Yamunotri is also known as the starting point of the Char Dham Yatra, which is conducted annually from May to October. The holy journey traditionally begins at Yamunotri, continues to Gangotri, and then proceeds to Kedarnath and Badrinath, making it an essential destination for pilgrims visiting Uttarakhand.
Saptarshi Kund
Located approximately 10 km from Yamunotri Dham, this sacred high-altitude glacial lake, situated at an elevation of about 4,421 meters, is fed by the Champasar Glacier and is considered the true source of the Yamuna River. While most pilgrims perform their rituals at the easily accessible Yamunotri Temple, located at the base of the mountain, the challenging trek from Yamunotri to the lake is popular among experienced trekkers and professional mountaineers.
Though the trek is strenuous and requires physical endurance, the reward is truly breathtaking—an emerald-blue glacial lake surrounded by snow-covered peaks and frozen glaciers. The area is also believed to be the natural habitat of the rare and sacred Brahma Kamal flower, which holds great spiritual significance in the Himalayas.
Hanuman Chatti
Located at the sacred confluence of the Hanuman Ganga and Yamuna rivers, the peaceful mountain village of Hanuman Chatti lies about 13 km from Yamunotri Dham on the Yamunotri route. Set amidst the majestic Himalayan ranges and dense pine forests, Hanuman Chatti sits at an altitude of approximately 2,400 meters, offering a calm and refreshing halt for pilgrims and travelers.
The village is an important stop for devotees seeking the blessings of Lord Hanuman, and also serves as a popular base point for trekking routes leading to Dodi Tal and other Himalayan destinations, making it a favored stop for both pilgrims and adventure enthusiasts.
